October Challenge: The Crooked Welcome
Theme: Villain Monologue
Inspiration: Theatrical and cinematic villains
Tone: Charismatic, playful, or menacing
Voice: Gender-neutral
Script
(Smooth, welcoming — could be deliciously theatrical or coldly amused)
Welcome, welcome… I’ve been expecting you.
Do forgive the mess. It’s so hard to keep the place tidy when guests arrive unannounced.
(Lingers on the word “guests,” either with honeyed delight or a rasping sneer)
But you’re not just any guest, are you? No… you’re the one they whispered about.
The bold one. The foolish one. The deliciously… entertaining one.
(Paces, warming into the role — playful or menacing)
Sit down, sit down.
I’ve prepared a little feast for you.
Oh, don’t fret, not food — something far more exquisite.
A banquet of choices, each one laced with consequence.
Pick wrongly, and the night devours you whole.
Pick rightly, and perhaps you’ll stagger out alive… hmm hmm hmm hmm… scarred, trembling, wiser.
(Sudden pause — softer, intimate, dangerous)
But tell me… do you trust yourself to choose?
(Sharp shift — booming laugh OR gravelly growl)
Because I already know your fate.
And darling… I do so love a dinner party!
(Feel free to end with a booming laugh.)
Notes from the Mob
Villains took the stage in October as Mic Mob explored two distinct performance styles:
Disneyesque & deliciously camp — think Ursula, Scar, Hades
Gritty & unnerving — think Freddy Krueger, Pennywise, Joker
Members leaned into charisma, menace, and theatrical energy, practicing how to balance tone and projection for cinematic delivery. Every performance brought its own flavor to this devilishly fun Halloween challenge.
